Adoption Information

Looking for a loving companion cat? We have a variety of ages, sizes, and colors, all very healthy due to our policy of natural care.

After browsing this site, the next step might be to visit us at one of our adoption fairs (Click on "Events" in the sidebar). If there is a specific cat that appeals to you, call us and we will see if we can arrange a meeting.

Our adoption process is really very simple, but you have to keep in mind that we are interested primarily in the long-term health and wellbeing of the cats. We look for the best match between the cat and the household and we try to place the cat in a family that will continue to promote good health by natural care.

Even though you may have had cats all of your life, it might be necessary for you to do some research in areas where you have never been before. Nutrition and vaccination are two of these. It would be a good idea to come to our next Introductory/Orientation meeting (Click on "Events" in the sidebar). You will meet other people who are learning about our mission, cat rescue, and natural cat care. They may be potential adopters, fosters, volunteers, donors, or just anyone who wants to know more about P.G.F.F. People who have had cats for a long time have told us that they learned things that they had never heard before, even from their veterinarian.

We realize that some of the concepts that you will learn may be new. We are not primarily concerned with adopting as many cats as possible through a revolving door policy, so we will be there to help with issues and questions that might come up. Our goal is to build an extended family of natural cat care providers and to assist them along the way, as necessary.

Oh, there are a few details:

We believe that domestic cats should be kept indoors 100% of the time. (Besides it's against the law to allow a cat to roam.)

Declawing is inhumane. It is illegal in many foreign countries and now is becoming illegal in some local U.S. jusisdictions. There are a lot of alternatives and they have a high degree of success, though.

We do not adopt cats out until they have been spayed or neutered. This is usually at about 3 months of age, but can vary depending on the size and weight of the cat. If you want to have really young kittens in your household, though, consider fostering. We sometimes have litters that need care. These kittens remain the property of P.G.F.F. and you will be provided with food, litter, and veterinary care, as needed.
